Meningitis (meningococcal disease)

Time from exposure to illness: 2 to 4 days.

First signs:

Sudden onset of high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, irritability, sleepiness, difficulty in waking. May develop a rash (purple or pink blotches).

Do not attempt to manage at home.

It is a life-threatening disease, which must be treated immediately by a doctor or hospital.
